Pentagon Hacker Loses Latest Extradition Battle
British resident Gary McKinnon lost his latest attempt to avoid extradition to the U.S. for reportedly hacking into NASA and Pentagon computers, signaling that he may finally be headed to the U.S. to face charges.
McKinnon was seeking permission to appeal to London's High Court to avoid extradition, but the court said his case did not raise "points of law of general public importance," which is necessary for the High Court to hear the case.
The Scottish-born McKinnon, recently diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, has been fighting extradition since July 2006, wanting to stand trial in the U.K instead. His lawyers said they may apply to the European Court of Human Rights to fight the extradition, according to Reuters.
In 2007, McKinnon won the right to have his case heard by Britain's House of Lords, but the House of Lords ruled that he could be sent to the U.S. on charges of accessing 97 U.S. military and NASA computers, according to the BBC.
