    Fireworks

I have been looking for some tax backups for a couple weeks. Finally decided that it had to be on the primary drive of one of my computers that died a while back. Since I wasn't using that computer, when it died, I just decided not to repair it.

Now that I want to see what is on that drive, I check my equipment to determine how I want to proceed. About this time I get a sales promotion from Tiger Direct. It contained a USB IDE/SATA cable adapter. I decided that it was just the thing to solve my problem, so I ordered it.

When it arrived, I quickly attached it and plugged the power supply in.

Now this is when things begin to pick up. I saw a pretty glow coming from the drive circuit board. I remember saying to myself, "I didn't know there was a LED of that circuit board. The glow grew in intensity leading to a loud POP followed by smoke.

This is not the recommended time to read the instructions. I thought I would have a go at it anyway. This time everything was done correctly. It was a bad drive or a bad cable adapter. Regardless, it was an exciting few minutes.

well, I had the same problem with a motherboard 2 days ago. One of the circuits when glowing red (from heat) and smoked really bad.
I guess it did not like the overclock from 200 FSB to 255.
Dam, the motherboard should have frozen, not melted

Haha, so those Duron overclocks to melt through the MB could be real!

Wow EFC, hope no children were hurt in that experiment with your HD! did you RMA?

Gee Dehc, that's not much of an overclock, must have been a faulty motherboard... I agree, it should have cut-power before frying!

Newegg already sent me the replacement. It should be here today.
I am wondering if I should try the same setting, or just leave it at stock this time
