Coming in November: Xbox Live Gold family packs
Trying to capture the casual and family gaming market, like Nintendo did so successfully with the Wii console, Microsoft on Tuesday said it will offer a new Xbox Live Gold Family Pack in November.
For $99.99 – the price of two normal Xbox Live Gold year-long subscriptions – families will be able to get up to four individual Gold memberships on the Xbox 360 gaming and entertainment network. The subscriptions and their billing information can be tied to a single primary account, presumably controlled by a parent, so the kids can't go buying and downloading things willy-nilly.
With a new Family Center on the Xbox 360 dashboard, Family Packs will allow parents to monitor their kids' Xbox activity and limit access to inappropriate content, Microsoft said in a news release. Family Pack members will also have access to exclusive content and discounts.
