Bethesda Softworks' post-apocalyptic take on Las Vegas seems to have hit the sales jackpot.

The publisher announced it has shipped 5 million copies of its action role-playing game Fallout: New Vegas to retailers, generating more than $300 million.

It will be interesting to watch where New Vegas ends up when October sales figures are revealed later this month. The game debuted in a packed month which also featured Fable III, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, the revamped Medal of Honor and the Michael Jordan led NBA 2K11.

Just after its October 19 launch, numerous reports surfaced of glitches plaguing the game.

On the official Bethesda blog, the publisher revealed a "comprehensive" patch is in the works to address "save issues" and other bugs. Bethesda says the patch will arrive for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the coming weeks.
