Vista - hanging up, any fixes ?

Looking into a issue with Vista locking up/freezing from time to time.
It lasts 1-2 min, and nothing will work, not even alt-ctrl-del

I don't think its spyware etc, as I've cleaned it up.
I've run tune up programs (which helped with overall speed and performance).
Some have suggested it had to do with virtual memory etc...

In any case I Don't do games or video's etc.
Just surfing, have 2-3 Firefox browser's running, a Word doc open maybe...
    and listening to a mp3....

Which works fine for hours, and then it will randomly hang up, (no error msg)
for 1-2 min, and then back to normal.

    Any ideas ?

    Here is some system info.

Vista home premium - service pack 2
    Intel (R) CPU 2160 @1.8 Ghz 1.8 ghz
    Memory 3.0 GB
    32 bit

I did a Google search "vista hangs" and found that a lot of people are having the same problem. One comment dealt with an individual solving his/her problem by changing from the 64 bit version back to the x86 version. You didn't mention which version you are using so I am providing the info should it apply.
    Linux Mint Debian Edition

Have you noticed any activity on the hard drive when it locks up. (look at the orange light on the case)

    It's back...

I get the hard freeze or hang up, whatever you call it, where the vista circle is spinning, and for 2-3 min you can't do anything. Then all goes back to normal.

This was happening quite a bit a few months ago.
I installed more Ram, and ran a pc cleaner, which helped, wasn't getting any for a while. Now I get them now and then.

Any ideas on what this is ? I think it has to do with system usage etc. someone said maybe virtual memory.....
Any tweaks I can do ?

Try a clean boot. Then re-enable services one by one until you find the one causing the slow boot.

I don't have any boot problems, just periodic freezes during normal use, otherwise everything is working fine..

    Virtual memory settings

Does anyone have any suggested settings for the Virtual memory.
In the setting page the; "Automatically manage paging file size" is checked,
if you uncheck it, you can then customize the Initial and Max size.

Anyone have experience with this and what the benefits might be ?

I'm thinking this may help my freezing and hangups, that I get from time to time.

    Here is my system info.
