Rumours abound that Microsoft and Samsung will demonstrate a tablet running Windows 8 at next week's Build developer conference in California.

According to various online sources the Windows 8 tablet will be publicly shown at the conference with some reports adding that developers at the event will be given the device with a pre-release version of the operating system.

Microsoft is also expected to disclose further details of Windows 8 at Build, including how the company will support ARM processors as well as x86 chips, and the software development model it expects coders to follow in the future.

Some reports additionally claim that the Samsung tablet in question will be ARM-based, running an unnamed quad-core processor.

Microsoft demonstrated an early version of Windows 8 running on an ARM-based motherboard at the CES show in January.

The full version of Windows 8 is expected in the first half of 2012, suggesting that a beta could be released at Build as well.
