Google has unveiled a revamped version of Gmail, offering key improvements to the layout, search and themes.

The conversation view has been stripped down to improve readability, explained Jason Cornwell, user experience designer at Google, in the Official Gmail blog.

Message threads are also clearer to navigate, and there are pictures of contacts included.

Searching has been improved to make it easier to find messages, and Google has added a dropdown menu to the search box which activates an 'advanced' panel for searches.

Users can now create filtered searches directly from this advanced feature, which will enable faster searching, Cornwell explained.
