Save desktop set up / Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family ??

I'm grasping in the dark for clues here so bear with me.

I had my Desktop set up (icon placement) and it never seemed to change
    over months and months...
Whether this is a feature OR just because nothing caused it to change
    I'm not sure.

In any case a few weeks ago I did a Windows update.
And since then my desktop changes from time to time.

I did notice that the day I did the update, the my screen resolution
changed, and I had to go in and get it back to something I was comfortable
    with.
Based on that and searching in the dark.... my thinking is that it
MIGHT of been something related to this.

    ""Intel Graphics media center
    Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family ""

Not sure if this was around before the update or just got updated...

In any case this is my only clue as to what might have changed
    and thus affected my desktop

    Questions:
do I need this "Intel Graphics media center
    Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family " ?

I'd like to try and uninstall it and see if that helps

Is there anything else you can think of that might have caused this ?

When you say 'changes' I presume you mean the icons are re-arranged from their previous locations?

This can happen if the resolution has changed. It adjusts the position of the icons to suit the new frame size. If you move the icons back to their original positions they should remian in that place so long as you shut down the machine properly.

Another thing to check. Right click the desktop and select 'View' and make sure 'Auto Arrange' is not enabled.

As long as you save any changes by shutting down correctly there is no need to use an addon.
