Yesterday, I found myself with time on my hands and decided that it was time to take the plunge and install Linux Mint Debian (LMDE) on the machine that I use for experimenting. While capable, this quad-core computer is not the one that I depend on for important tasks.
Linux Mint is a departure from other versions of Mint which are all based on Ubuntu. The installer for the Ubuntu based versions has an automatic partitioning capability. LMDE does not. You are required to manually partition the HD. Luckily there is a guide provided available. . If you carefully follow the guide you should have no trouble with this part of the process. From there on everything is automatic.
Why bother?
LMDE is a rolling distribution. It updates automatically. You do not have to do backup before installing new version. LMDE will always be as up-to-date as the Debian core behind it.
It is the most responsive OS that I have ever used. Click on software and it opens immediately.
What you need.
