If you've ever uploaded a photo to a Facebook status update from your desktop, you're well aware of the number of steps it takes to do so.

You'll also be glad to know that the social network has eliminated those steps and replaced them with simple drag-and-drop technology.

You can grab a photo on your desktop, drag it to the photo icon below the status update box, and watch your image upload to the site without fuss or muss. Better yet, you can drag and drop multiple photos to a post without going through the rigmarole of creating an album.

Prior to the drag-and-drop change, it could take up to six steps to upload a photo to Facebook from the desktop.

Many of Facebook's photo initiatives in recent times have been aimed at mobile users, which it sees as an important growth area, as the purchase of photo sharing service Instagram for $1 billion illustrates.

However, only 14 percent of Facebook's ad revenues came from mobile users during the quarter that ended Sept. 30, and a little more than 100 million of its billion members are mobile-only users.

That means lots of people are still accessing the social network through desktops, so keeping them happy probably makes good sense.
