Just one day after rumors of a 128GB iPad surfaced in the blogosphere, Apple on Tuesday confirmed that it will indeed be offering a new tablet with boosted storage space.

The new, 128GB iPad will be available starting Tuesday, Feb. 5 in black or white for $799 for the Wi-Fi model or $929 for the Wi-Fi plus cellular version. It will be sold via Apple Stores, Apple.com, and authorized re-sellers.

"With more than 120 million iPads sold, it's clear that customers around the world love their iPads, and everyday they are finding more great reasons to work, learn and play on their iPads rather than their old PCs," Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said in a statement. "With twice the storage capacity and an unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs."

The 128GB iPad will hit stores just four days before Microsoft's Surface Pro is released on Feb. 9. The 64GB version of Redmond's tablet will be $899, while the 128GB version will be $999.

In announcing the 128GB iPad, Apple talked up the impact of its tablet on the enterprise market - a space that has largely been dominated by Microsoft.

"Virtually all of the Fortune 500 and over 85 percent of the Global 500 [companies are] currently deploying or testing iPad," Apple said today. "Companies regularly utilizing large amounts of data such as 3D CAD files, X-rays, film edits, music tracks, project blueprints, training videos and service manuals all benefit from having a greater choice of storage options for iPad."
