SYMEVENT.SYS is a Symantec Utility Driver. Make sure you have the latest version --> here ...looking for more.

WELL!!! It appears that the SYSEVENT.SYS refers to a "low leverl driver used for Symantec programs.) i.e. Norton F**king antivirus.

So, I updated these low level drivers and lets see what happens.

Page fault means that XP was looking for something at a certain memory address and it didnt find it.

The non paged area is RAM and not pagefile on your disk.

How much RAM is installed? It could point to a bad stick of ram as well.

i'm up to 256K RAM...bad stick eh??? Guess that means I gotta go get 256K more

If you have a friend or someone who has a stick you can borrow real quick, switch it out and test it.

While I am thinking about it, make sure it is fully seated in its slot.

I'll check the seating in the slot (although nothing has hit this case minus baseball bat for a good four weeks)....

In the mean time, I have taken the easy way out and uninstalled Norton. Once I am finished with the necessities tonight, I will reinstall and then see if the problem persists. I'm thinking to see if the SYMSERV.SYS is still on my system. I'll rename it and then install Norton.

Stripe, I use NIS2002 which includes Norton Antivirus. Nothing has made it through and I have had quite a few viruses e-mailed to me. The key is to stay updated with definitions.

That was the nice thing about Norton (the live update feature)...non-intrusive...updates regularly...low maintenance...

until now...I'm still going to try a reinstall...but if it fails, I'll be looking

I've been having the same trouble, started at the beginning of the month and my brother was less then helpful in fixing it... Stripe did you get your computer to work again?

I guess the SW could possibly shake things loose. My concern would be if the magnet got to close, could ruin the HD.
