Google has sent out invitations to a press event next week in San Francisco that reveal no details other than that Android and Chrome chief Sundar Pichai will host, signaling that some new mobile product or feature could be unveiled.

"Please join us for breakfast with Sundar Pichai," said the inscrutable invitation, which was sent out via email Wednesday morning to members of the press. No other information was given.

The event is being held July 24 at San Francisco's Dogpatch Studios, a posh event space known for hosting film productions, commercials and parties. The event will also be livestreamed, the invitation indicates.

Pichai, whose formal title is senior VP of Android, Chrome and apps, replaced Google exec Andy Rubin this past March to lead development of the Android mobile operating system. Those responsibilities came in addition to his work with the company's apps and Chrome software, Google CEO Larry Page has said.

Since then, industry watchers have awaited a new version of the company's Android software, known as Jelly Bean in the current version. The latest rumors focus on a fall release of Android 5.0, dubbed Key Lime Pie.
