Rockstar Games will celebrate the launch of Grand Theft Auto 5 tonight with midnight launch events in cities around the globe.

In the U.S., the game developer will host a midnight opening at the GameStop in New York's Union Square. "Stop by and check out the custom Bravado Banshee, score some limited GTAV promo gear and of course get your hands on a copy of the game promptly at midnight," Rockstar said in an announcement.

Rockstar will also be at GameStop stores in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and Boston, while launch events are also planned across Canada, the U.K., and Europe. Rockstar urged fans to check with their local stores for details; some stores are listed on Rockstar's website.

Those who pick up their games at Walmart or Best Buy will get a GTA 5 logo keychain or character poster, respectively, while supplies last.

For those moments that you can't be glued to your console, meanwhile, Rockstar today released a companion app for iOS known as iFruit.

"iFruit hooks directly into your experience of Grand Theft Auto V with some fun activities to further postpone the need for real social interaction," the app description says. "Keep up-to-date on the latest Grand Theft Auto V news, log into the Rockstar Games Social Club, stay connected on LifeInvader and launch other Rockstar Games apps."

Rockstar promised a version soon for Android, Windows Phone, PlayStation Mobile, and Vita. The company also plans to release a digital game manual for iOS later today and for other platforms (including Mac and PC) at a later date.
