The gaming giant this week announced that the retail version of the Wii Fit U for Wii U will hit store shelves on Jan. 10.

"Wii Fit U makes fitness fun. It's as simple as that," Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing, said in a statement. "Wii Fit U is a great option for busy moms and families who want to stay active in the comfort of their own homes — which is perfect during the cold winter months."

Wii Fit U offers 77 different activities, including favorites from the original Wii Fit series like strength training, yoga, and fitness games. There's also 19 new training activities, including hip hop and salsa dance routines and balance challenges. Players can create their own custom workout and routines, as well as join the Miiverse gym community to share tips and offer workout support.

Wii Fit U bundles come packaged with a new activity meter called the Fit Meter, which syncs with the game and tracks your daily routines. You can carry the Fit Meter with you wherever you go, and then easily sync it to your Wii Fit U profile to track daily activities like steps taken and calories burned.

If you don't reach your daily calorie target, the game will propose exercises that can help you meet your goals. All members of a family can get their own Fit Meter, create their own profiles, and compare their progress and activities with each other.

Wii Fit U requires a Balance Board accessory. Nintendo is offering a bundle that includes the Wii Fit U game, a Balance Board, and the Fit Meter accessory for $89.99. Those who already own a Balance Board can pick up a Wii Fit U game and Fit Meter bundle for $49.99. Additional Fit Meters can be purchased separately for $19.99.
