I do not have a color printer, but do have access to one. I do a lot of work in Excel and the Excel Print function has a print to file check box, where supposedly they will do all of the formatting for the selected printer, but write it to a file.

If I do not specify a file extension when I create the print to file image, Excel does not put a file extension on the name - for example "Print_test". If I specify an extension of PRT that is what winds up in the file name - Print_test.PRT.

I can transport and use DOS to print, ie, "copy print_test LPT1"
or "copy Print_test.PRT LPT1" and they both work OK.

two questions -
Does it matter what I call it since each seems to work?

Is their a file extension association in control panel I can use to keep from dropping into DOS?
