A security breach at Spotify has prompted the music streaming company to warn its Android app users. It will be gradually informing them to upgrade to a new version of the application after a hacker managed to access data.

The unauthorised access was limited to just one user and the data acquired did not include any password, financial or payment information. However, Spotify is taking the breach seriously and as a result will guide all Android app users to upgrade over the next few days.

It reminds Spotify subscribers that the Android version of its app should only be installed via Google Play, the Amazon Appstore or m.spotify.com. It does not recommend installing the APK from anywhere else.

Sadly, by installing the upgraded new version, Android users will have to redownload any playlists or tracks they might have stored for offline listening.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this causes, but hope you understand that this is a necessary precaution to safeguard the quality of our service and protect our users," it says in statement on its blog site.

Spotify has also taken steps to strengthen its security systems, it says.
