Spotify Free Music Streaming Lands on Windows Phone
Spotify has finally rolled out free, ad-supported music streaming for Microsoft's Windows Phone. Previously, only those with a $10-per-month Premium Spotify subscription could stream music through the Windows Phone app.
Today's update lets you listen to any artist, album, or playlist on shuffle mode. You can also access the "Browse" section and check out playlists that Spotify has created to fit different moods. You'll still need a membership to listen to specific songs on demand, though.
The option started rolling out to iOS and Android in December.
"We're excited to see Spotify made available for free on Windows Phone," Steve Guggenheimer, corporate vice president of Microsoft, said in a statement. "This puts a much-loved listening experience in the hands of Windows Phone fans across the world, and beautifully showcases both our platform and the Spotify service."
