As Ferris Bueller once said, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

If you follow hundreds of people, the same could be said of Twitter, which is why the micro-blogging service has introduced the "While you were away" feature.

Twitter "While You Were Away"Whether you're a faithful tweeter, or check in once a day for the latest from Taylor Swift or Barack Obama, "While you were away" will provide a recap of some of the top messages you missed.

"Our goal is to help you keep up—or catch up—with your world, no matter how much time you spend on Twitter," product manager Paul Rosania wrote in a blog post. "With a few improvements to the home timeline we think we can do a better job of delivering on that promise without compromising the real-time nature of Twitter."

Starting today, Twitter for iOS users will notice the "While you were away…" tag at the top of their feeds, highlighting a few of the best tweets that may have otherwise gone unnoticed.

The feature will roll out "soon" for the Android app and Web-based service.

Twitter's vice president of product, Kevin Weil, teased the service late last year, suggesting that recaps would surface highlights based on who you follow and what you engage with.

With 500 million Tweets published every day, "there's no way even the most avid Twitter user will find everything that's relevant to their interests in any particular moment," Weil said in November.
