    Emailing photos with OE

I send a lot of photos with OE which are inserted as attachments. When the photo is received, the body of the email is a huge photo, even though the attachment also contains a photo. How do I keep the photo from being displayed in the body of the email? I'd really apprecite getting help with fixing this.

That is the default behavior of receiving mail in Outlook Express. If the attachment is a picture file (.jpg, .gif,.bmp) it will be displayed in the body of the mail without having to double click on the attachment.

Thanks, but isn't there a way to stop it from doing this? I have XP. When I used 95 this didn't happen. Kathy

One way is to zip the image. then it wont show up in the preview pane.

I will keep looking for a way to disable this feature.

One way I just figured out. Change the file extension name to .bak
Then leave instructions to have the change the name back to .jpg

It works as well.. but there should be a feature you can shut off to stop this within outlook.

If you have Microsoft Outlook the picture will not be displayed until you click on it.

Thank you. I tried changing the file extension but I'm not very good at these things. I honestly thought that there would be a simple solution to this. Please keep looking.

    Auntyb,
If you have Windows XP, and outlook is configured properly to both send and receive emails, you can try this. It is rather simple, but can be confusing.

    ONe,
Get the image on your Hard drive, desktop or wherever you store them.
    Two,
Right click the image, then select compressed Zipped Folder.
It will create a file with the name of your PHOTO and the .ZIP file extension.

    For example:
photo name original extension (.JPG .BMP .GIF etc..)
    grandma.jpg

after right clicking it and selecting send to compressed Zipped folder,
    it will show
    grandma.zip

Now whenever the person you send it to get the file, providing they have XP, they can download it and open it automatically. If not they can always pick up winzip, winrar, or winace to open the files. These applications are free.
    http://www.winzip.com
    http://www.winrar.com
    http://www.winace.com

You can also select that same ZIPPED file, right click it and select SEND TO, then MAIL RECIPIENT.
That will open up outlook express and send the file automatically. You just have to add their email address.

Also, you might want to check this out:

To change the display of the preview pane

The preview pane lets you view message contents without opening the message in another window. To preview a message, click its title once. To open it in its own window, double-click the title.

You can position the preview pane either below the message list or beside it; you can choose to display or hide the message header; or you can hide the preview pane entirely.

On the View menu, click Layout.
In the Preview Pane area, select the options you want and then click OK.
    Note

To resize the preview pane and the message list, point to the divider between them until you see a double arrow, and then drag the divider up or down.

I will keep looking for a simpler way to do this.

Thank you. The solution isn't complicated, even for me. The problem is that I email photos to little old ladies/men who get scared when they even have to open an attachment. When they see the giant photo in the body of the email they just think that they can't see it and go no farther. I'm looking for a way to stop the photo in the email body for them, not for me. I sure hope that someone has an inspiration for solving this. I appreciate your help. Kathy

    Kathy,
I emailed Fred Langa, author of the The Langa List. This is his reply:
I don't know how you'd selectively block an image; but why not disable
    the
preview pane itself? Why bother to preview at all, especially as
    previewing
    creates its own security issues?

    http://www.google.com/search?q=outlo...s+preview+pane
I am emailing him now that it occurs even when the preview pane has been disabled.

I don't get it, why can't your friends see a "giant" photo in the body of the e-mail? If they are afraid of attachments isn't it easier to view the picture in the body?

The photo is HUGE. I'm really not trying to create a problem where there is none. Even by sliding the bars you can't view the entire photo. I never dreamed that this couldn't be fixed without major surgery.

Thanks, BB, for being on the search. That is very kind of you. Kathy

Yeah right . But there is any way to preview the images with Microsoft Outlook ? ( like in Outlook Express ) ?

I've been searching around this... none tool works...

So that when people send me picture or any attachments, it will be automatically open and show in the preview panel?

Let say if someone send me 10 picture attachment, i have
to double click on the attachment 10 times in order to
    view all the picture.

So is there anyway to tweak/configure outlook to work
    that way?

I know Outlook does not offer online preview unless you're viewing an HTML item with images or an RTF mail item with OLE embedded objects. OE does preview images in the Preview Pane.

If someone knows how to... I'm going to send you a gift..

    You could try Eudora:

If you haven't already. If I find something about this in Outlook, I'll let you know.

Many thanks . But I do not like very much Eudora. It seems like a challenge .
