    Installing XP!

It might`ll sound like a silly question but it`s a reality that I,m having trouble in installing XP.
Actually I wanna know how can I install XP on a blank hard disk when there is nthing on the hard disk just like a new system.
I had to format my hard disk & after formatting there was only DOS left on my systm. So when i tried to run XP setup by running "setup.exe" in the XP CD ,I got a message "this program can not run in DOS".
I was really confused & I had to install 98 so that I can install XP by Upgrading XP.

    hello:

    xp cd is bootable

all you need to do is go into your compters bios (usually "hold delete key) when you turn on your computer

and select your cd drive as the first boot device

    save and restart

when you reboot ou should get a message
    boot fron cd
    press any key

press the spacebar quick and you should get the windows setup boot screen

follow the instructions and winxp will format you new or old drive for a fresh x p install

give more info if this didnt hep you

Copy and paste that link into a web browser.

Once you get that, it is a guide to do a clean install of XP.

Egghead has shot you in the right direction.

I changed the first boot device to Cd rom but when the computer rebooted I pressed the space bar to boot from the CD I got the following messages
1.start the computer with CD rom support
2.start the computer without CD rom support
    3.View the help file

when I selected the first option it took me to the DOS prompt showing

    A:/>

when i tried to run the setup from there I got the message "this program can not be run in DOS"

I also wanna know does it depend on the BIOS version or the DOS verion I,m having

IF that is the case that your Xp is not bootable, then you need to get ahold of 4 floppies and download the setup disks for floppy:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default...EN-US;q310994&

That should allow you to boot up and use your nonbootable XP disk to install windows XP.

the boot you describe sounds like a windows98 boot disc

the original xp cd has its own boot screen that starts the recovery and setup process

download the 4 floppies big booger provided for you and you should be good to go
