Days after a third-party developer launched a native Windows application that lets you play PS4 games on your PC, Sony confirmed that it is working on an official version of the feature.

Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studios at Sony, tweeted the news.

The Xbox One lets you hook up a controller to your Windows 10-based PC and stream your Xbox One's screen to that PC. On the PS4, though, remote streaming only works on the PS Vita and PlayStation TV, as well as Sony Xperia devices, but not to a PC.

App developer Twisted didn't want to wait for Sony, and created a workaround known as Remote Play PC. It launched on Wednesday and costs 6.50 GBP (about $10). "The only way to support this is to charge for the app, all my previous projects have been free and I don't want to have to but sadly its [sic] the only way to support my living costs," Twisted said in a blog post.

There's no word on whether Sony will crack down on Twisted's workaround or let it stand until its own solution is released. Yoshida didn't elaborate on timing for the official app.

As TechCrunch noted, Sony likely needs to do some work its controllers. The PS4 controller has a touchpad, which might not play well with your PC, so keep an eye out for new drivers for OS X and Windows.
