    Hi and welcome to techzonez.
There are several programs that will do the trick. Microangelo, TweakXP, but I prefer a freebie called TWEAK UI. It resides in your control panel after you install it and it allows you to remove those arrows.
    You can get it
    here

Another way to do this without installing any software but is an advanced procedure using the registry:
Remove shortcut arrow from desktop icons
Here's how you can remove those shortcut arrows from your desktop icons in Windows XP.

    1. Start regedit.
    2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile
    3. Delete the IsShortcut registry value.

You may need to restart Windows XP.
If you need assistance on installing or using tweakxp or using the registry editting feature just ask.
Word of caution when editting the registry, it is a good idea to back up the registry before making any changes.

Hello, get tweakxp. You will be able to remove the little shortcut arrows.

One of the Power Toys for Windows XP is TweakUI. Among many other things you can do with this FREE app is to remove the arrow on your desktop icons.
