Microsoft has shipped a new Windows 10 Insider Preview with improvements to raw image support and the new Light theme.

“Due to a small outage in our build publishing system, this build will be rolling out to Windows Insiders over the next few hours so it may not be immediately available at the time of publish of this blog post,” Microsoft’s Dona Sarkar notes of the release.

Here’s what’s new in build 18323:

Raw image support improvements. Starting with version 19H1, Windows 10 will finally natively support raw image formats courtesy of a raw codec package you can download from the Microsoft Store. “By downloading the new Raw Image Extension (Beta) package from the store, you can now view image thumbnails, previews, and camera metadata of previously unsupported raw files right in File Explorer,” Sarkar explains. “You can also view your raw images – at full resolution – in apps such as Photos or any other Windows app that uses Windows Imaging Component framework to decode raw images.”

Light theme improvements. Windows 10 19H1 will include a new Light theme—really called the Light app mode—and this build includes various improvements related to the display of certain on-screen elements.

Beyond these two notable changes, build 18323 also includes a slew of fixes and several known issues. Check the original blog post for the complete lists of each. More notable, perhaps, Microsoft has locked down the in-box apps—meaning the apps that ship with Windows 10 version 19H1—in this build.

“As a result, Insiders may have noticed that some features have disappeared from these apps,” Sarkar explains. “This was probably most noticeable with the Photos app. Insiders can get these features back by going into the settings of an inbox app like Photos and clicking the ‘Join preview’ button.”
