The only other thing I can think of is that you need to move your NIC to another slot. Perhaps it could be causing a IRQ error...
Another thing, you have LAN 5, so where is LAN 1-4?
I am sure if you did a clean install, this would solve the problem.. though you'd have to do some backing up of files and settings..
I cannot believe you didn't get a manual... what kind of company delivers an item and tells you to figure it out without the manual. I would ask them to bring you a manual as well. When I got my cable modem, it came with about 3 booklets, and a quick start guide..
Can you not get connected to the modem's configuration using the IP?
Try this, open IE, click on tools, internet options, select connection tab, then check the box to NEVER dial your default connection.
Then close IE and reopen it.
Then type this address:
http://192.168.100.1/
Tell me if you can get into your configuration screen for your modem.

exactly
this was the old winipcfg in win9x
only this ones for xp and nt
make sure you chose your nic card in the drop down box
something is messed with your connection and if want to get online i would re-install xp not repair
with a fresh install of xp you should be in highspeed heaven
knock on wood
something is clashing and i think its msn autoconfig
any at&t workers want to take a shot at it?

they give you a quick reference guide and troubleshooter and the CD contains the manual.
never dial out was already checked
I get a page not found
unable to find server.
I also have a thick book "ATT broadband Internet Activation Guide and CD - but they said that was for after I get connected
with the dial-up connected i get connection refused with that url

lynchknot can you disable your dial-up
turn off the computer
reset the cable modem
wait for the modem to initialize
boot up the computer and do ipconfig and see if you have a dns suffix
i think by disabling msn dialup networking you lan can access the network and get assighned a server with your modem
get a pop while your at it!
lol!
thi8s is what the web is suggesting to me

I would reformat my HDD. I would physically remove the Dialup modem. I would then try it. If it still does not work, move your NIC into a different slot, though I think it should work. Egghead seems to be on the right trail in regards to MSN taking over and not letting your cable modem do its job.

When the ATT tech was here, I asked her "don't you need to at least unplug the phone cord"? - she said no.
I will try again Egghead. I will re-install Windows tomorrow if the tech cannot get it connected.
I thought broadband will give you some dial-up as a back-up for a certain amount of hrs.
BB, i'm not sure if the card can be moved. It doesn't look like there is anywhere else the plug can go.

To move the NIC, you have to open the case. On the very back of the case you will see the NIC, your Dialup modem, etc... You might need to move the NIC into another PCI slot, they are usually white slots about 4-6 inches long, and about a half inch thick. There should be 2-7 slots on your motherboard for PCI peripherals.. Just move it from one slot to another. Make sure that your ethernet cable is disconnected before moving it.
I think however that a reformat will most likely fix this, though I don't know why in the hell it doesn't work now. I have a 56K modem and a broadband modem and they work fine in my PC.
