    process "System" in Windows XP

Hi, listen to this.......... when my win XP starts, with Task Manager I have about 100% System Idle process and about 0% Cpu for a process called "System". Immediately after windows Explorer usage, the System process goes at about 50% Cpu usage and keeps this value until system shutdown, even if no applications are running at all. I really can't understand this behaviuor 'cause I expect System process always near zero. Of course I can kill System process, but Windows immediately restarts it with the same amount of Cpu as before. Can anybody explain this? Thanks

    Welcome to Techzonez.

Couple of things to start with.
Have you run a virus scan? Some viruses utilize explorer.exe.
You may also have faulty RAM.Do you have a spare stick you can use.

Thanks Reverend for your message. I can confirm you no viruses found, hard to answer about my RAM. I don't know if there are tests to verify RAM functionality. Bye

first thing is to try the free online virus scanner

this has found viruses on computers with uptodate virus scanner software

    its better safe than sorry

    next

    goto
www.lavasoftusa.com and get ad-aware and scan your computer for spybots and adservers
    delete everything it finds

    all bad stuff
reboot and see if that help

if not reply here and we'll try again

I don't think there's anything wrong with your PC. My System Idle Process hovers around 98 to 99 but the Total CPU Usage is about 2% when my PC is idle.
