A Great Sig Done by a Great Artist,
Remove windows version from desktop using "regedit.exe"
1.Click on "Start", then "Run.." and type "regedit".
2.Navigate to the registry key:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop".
3.Once there, locate the DWORD value "PaintDesktopVersion".
4.Right click on it and select Modify.
-Value equal to "0" removes Windows version from desktop.
-Value equal to "1" adds Windows version to desktop.
5.Reboot your computer.

spot on JP. THat is exactly how I am running windows Longhorn now, with a predominantly white background.. can't even see the build But I always know it is there.
Doesn't M$ TweakUI have the option to remove desktop branding? Even if so, would it work on Longhorn?
The tweak Ui does work on XP, but unfortunately it will not work on Longhorn. I wished there was a way to remove it, as it is very annoying.. it would also be nice just to edit it..
I am sure if you had the time and information, you could hunt it down and edit it.. but as this is just an pre-alpha, I am not going to even try :P
Well, if I find anything about this, I will definitely post it.
Being a pre-alpha I wouldn't try too hard myself...........still....................it's nice having a clean desktop.
Gotta be one of those keys that you don't that most dont have a clue about with a string of letters, numbers in it.

This works on XP so...............maybe?
Try this but back up the Registry first or at least save the keys that will be changed/deleted!
This message is placed on the desktop when some of the betas of service
pack 1 were installed.
Generally it was accepted that people should restore back to the point prior
to applying the beta before they applied the next beta or final service
pack.
The text can be removed manually if you wish.
