    Enable Boot Defrag

WindowsXP includes a neat little feature called boot defrag which helps speed up the startup process, but for some reason it's not always enabled by default. Of course this can be easily turned on with a simple registry hack.

Go to Start, then Run and from there type Regedit and press the ok button. Follow this path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Dfrg -> BootOptimizeFunction. Look for the "Enable" string and if the value is Y, boot defrag is enabled. If the value is not Y, change it to Y, close and reboot.

If it wasn't enabled before, you should notice your system boots much quicker now. Please keep in mind, only some computers do not have this feature enabled by default.

I am skeptical about this tweak without installing a defragmenter which is actually capable of "boot defrag".

well, my systems had them on by default.
Conan and Thor, did you check to see if it was on or off?? YOu might have it on already, even if you don't believe in it.
All the tips I posted I had tried them myself, exept for the RAM one

Nope...bootvis provides a way to see the order and time taken to boot different parts of windows.

Yep, mine was on too. Dehc, you should make a website dedicated to Tips and Tricks, or make your own version of TweakXp.

Tweak XP can't even set the proper Level 2 Cache of my P4. When I found out about this I stopped using this program!

Ohh, no. Don't give me too much credit. I can't do programming. Gosh, I even fight with my Linux Machine
Just stuff I come across, plus I had so much junk to which I had been subscribed , and I don't even read 1/10 of it. If I did I could be a guru, but still I woun't be able to program.
I even have problems all the time with the codecs in my PC. They drive me nutz
