For testing purposes only. Build 2600.......What the???
I had a mate do some work on my PC and he re-installed XP Pro for me. Then he applied a Service Pack and now there is this message on the desktop in the bottom right hand corner:
For testing purposes only. Build 2600.xpsp1.020828-1920 (Service Pack 1)
I got hold of another version of the Service Pack 1 from another source and the message remains. Any assistance would be much apreciated. I really just want to get rid of the message if possible.

1.Click on "Start", then "Run.." and type "regedit".
2.Navigate to the registry key:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop".
3.Once there, locate the DWORD value "PaintDesktopVersion".
4.Right click on it and select Modify.
-Value equal to "0" removes Windows version from desktop.
-Value equal to "1" adds Windows version to desktop.
5.Reboot your computer.
Try that.
If it doesn't work, let me know.

Same Problem different Program
Had the same problem after having installed IE7b after i uninstalled it kept the message there checked the value you mentioned above and it is set to 0 so i set it to 1 then back to 0 and still there any ideas?
Disregard I found another solution to this
If the value is already 0 or if this did not fix it then there are 2 keys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\CA\Certificates\FEE449EE0E3965A5246F000E87FDE2A065FD89D4]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\ROOT\Certificates\2BD63D28D7BCD0E251195AEB519243C13142EBC3]
Find those and remove them and reboot.
