    LCD Monitors

I need some recommendations. I am going to be purchasing a upgrade computer for an elderly gentleman next month. His computer activities are limited to email, some internet browsing, and playing solitaire. Money is an issue.

I can save some money on the computer. The Duron 1.6 MHz computer now available will have more than enough computing power to take care of his needs. The main concern is the monitor. The gentleman has very poor eye sight. I have been considering a putting the majority of his money into a decent LCD monitor.

I need suggestions of 17 " LCD monitors that help this man enjoy his new computer.

Please, I am looking for "first hand" knowledge. I can research specs. Don't respond with a suggestions unless you know the monitor first hand.

well I know your main concern would be the contrast ratio...I would recommend 450:1

Seeing how this is for an elderly gentleman I would recommend a 19" monitor CRT. You should be able to find one for around $200. Go to a local outlet store (Best Buy, WalMart, etc) and look at one with the res set to 800x600. I have to ware glasses and at 800x600 the screen looks very large to me. This way you can spend the money on memory, CPU an system board. I see no advantage to having an LCD for this set up.

I tend to agree with Tinker. I guess it depends whether space is an issue.

You called it SupaStar. If I go CRT it will have to be a 17". That may be the best bet. There are some great deals on quality monitors these days.

You can show him the accessability options, that may help with his poor eyesight.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
