Direcway satellite internet. Throughput has improved in recent weeks. It used to be between 600 and 1300 Kbps. Now it is rare for the speed to fall below 1300Kbps.

Keep in mind that the overall internet experience has two elements, throughput and latency. Latency can also be described as ping time. With satellite it much longer than with cable or dsl. Your mouse click travels from my dish to the satellite, then down to the direcway center to enter WAN, then to the internet site. Add a reverse trip to send information to the user's computer. In my case that latency averages 800 ms.

The fun with the latency speeds shown above is a kick when it comes to file downloads. I have experienced times when a download of a 6MB file is instant. Click on the download and immediately get a download finished message.

Makes my 512K ADSL look weak

Wouldn't be too good for online gaming though I would assume? Do you partake in any online gaming anyway?

No it doesn't work for gaming or for voice communications. Gaming doesn't interest me, so that isn't a big deal.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I don't know what happened. I used to complain constantly about speed. Now I just grin.
