I would say yes there's a good chance, put something under it and see.

I've heard to use a white mouse pad so it works better. Is there any truth to that?

I have a mouse pad at home but in the office I don't use one. I don't think not having one will have any ill effects on the mouse unless the surface is abrasive and you're wearing out the plastic.

You need a surface that has some kind of pattern in it. This comment from an article about a test on mouse pads.

"Your mouse's optical eye must detect a difference in the surface as the mouse moves over it. If the surface and/or image is too regular, the eye can't distinguish the differences in the surface as it moves and thus, cannot track."

The, pattern surfaces work better. I have tried this at home where I have 2 desk and 2 computers. The mouse in the pattern desk works better than in the flat desing one

I have been using a Logitech Optical mouse for about 1 1/2 years now just on my desktop, no pad, and it works fine. I have quit using mouse pads altogether with any mouse.

My desktop at work is your typical "cubicle" style...at home a fake wood veneer...both work fine. The only thing I have seen that kills an optical mouse is a mirror or highly reflective surface.

I dont think this is true, from what the other guys are saying, its better to have a patterned Mouse Pad, or desk top.

Personally, I still like my ball-mouse. Fairenough I have to clean the crap inside every other day, but what else could you be doing for those 5 secs waiting for BF1942 to load.

    Thumbs up

Go get yourself one of these mouse pads, fantastic to use with an optical mouse and if your a gamer I would highly recommend. Might be hard to find as I havent seenh them available at your normal computer outlets, I guess that depends on were you live.

This is another idea to improve mouse response.

Where can I buy that tape?? There is no price on it. It must be expensive since it increases your response time!! The latest upgrade-mod
I have exactly the same mouse at the office. I HATE IT. Too big, cumbersome to move.
I personally like my trackball. Gettting old, over 2 years already, but I have a heck more response than any other mouse I tried. Plus, it is very easy to do 180 with that mouse. I just wish there were an wireless version
