    USB 2.0/Firewire PCMCIA Combo Card

    I just got one of these for my laptop. I needed to do some DV editing and the old USB 1.1 port just isn't cutting the custard. So for $54 shipped, I get 2 USB 2.0 ports and 2 firewire ports (one mini and one 6pin regular port).

    I hope I don't have any crap with it.. Hopefully it will work out great.

    The specs of the card I bought:

    * USB 2.0 - 40 Times Faster Than The Original USB.
    * Provide 2xUSB2.0 downstream ports for USB device connection, and 1 x IEEE1394 6 pin port, 1 x IEEE1394 4pin port for IEEE 1394 device connection.
    * Fully compliant with USB 1.1/1.0 OHCI standard (full speed 12Mbps, low speed 1.5 Mbps), USB 2.0 EHCI standard OCHI standard(480 Mbps).
    * Fully compliant with IEEE 1394.
    * Data transfer rate up to 480Mbps for USB 2.0.
    * Data transfer rate up to 400Mbps for IEEE1394.
    * Support : Mac OS 8.6 or Greater, Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP .
    * Hot Swappable - Plug-N-Play.
    * PC Power Management v2.2 Compliant.
    * Provides better performance for printer, scanner, camera, storage, and Broadband network connections.
    * Automatically switches to the highest speed peripheral is capable of supporting.
    * Supports 100/200/400 Mbs connections.
    * Plug-n-Play compatible.
    * Chain up to 63 devices together.
    * Hot Pluggable - connect devices without restarting the computer.
    * Easy to install - no jumpers, switches or terminators required
    * Use with digital camcorders, hard drives, scanners and more.
    * Power Adapter : Comes with item
    The next laptop I buy will have all of this onboard.. but back when I bought my laptop, firewire was something the Vietcong used in the Jungles of Ho Chi Minh.

    I think if it works like my PCI card it will get near to 400Mbit transfers.. with firewire and near to 480mbit with USB 2.0

    It shipped yesterday so it should come in a week or so. I'll let you know my results when I get it.

    That is the cheapest I found a USB 2.0 and firewire combo PCMCIA card.
