Does XP (and 2000) for that matter come with generic webcam drivers built in?

My son and I were chatting tonight with Yahoo Instant Messenger, which has a video function. And he and I both have Intel webcams.

So does that program have its videocam drivers?

If it does not, then does that mean XP and 2000 do? Or could Yahoo Instant Messenger have been able to access the drivers in my video/voice program and my son's video/voice program. At the time of our videochat, neither his video program or mine were open?

    How does it work?
I've created my own website...a collection of moving, sad and happy and humorous poems which I would like to share with others. They come from stories my dad used to tell me when I was a kid. If you could glance at my site and if you know of others who might enjoy it and perhaps tell them of it, I would be most appreciative. Thank you. xp was built in drivers for quite a bit of new and legacy hardware. and if its usb xp handles usb devices very well i think the days of plug and prey are gone.

XP is newer so it will have better/updated drivers compared to 2000.

Both Conan and Phishhead gave you the right scoop on XP and your camera.I have an Intel C110 and XP picks up on the model and installs native drivers for it,and I downloaded newer drivers from Intel's website.I ran windows 2000 and plugged my usb cam in and needed drivers for it to work with Instant Messenger. These drivers were also available on Intel's website.Look in Yahoo's Messenger webcam setup and see if your camera shows up in your camera selection box and you will know for sure if you are at least recognised there. There should be an audio/video tuning wizard of some sort you can configure your microphone also.
