making the browser window -full screen

i bought a new toshoba laptop so i am configuring it as i go along.

using win xp-when i am on the internet and go to a new site, the window is not large and does not cover the entire screen. there must be a way to default it to "full screen". i just have not discovered it yet.

what is the method??? and thanks.
