email attachment error message?
i have ie 6 and outlook express 6. - win 98se
i have been receiving emails with attached files. i am unable to open them the normal way- (have to do a lengthy workaround)
the message: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in MY Computer by clicking View and then clicking Folder Options.
I know the extension is eml. i used to associate it in the past but now it is missing. and i am unsure what to do next.
thanks

get an eml file, save it to your HDD, right click it, and choose open with, then choose program.
then find the OE executable, select open but before clicking ok, make sure the check mark is beside the "always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
That should reassociate the EML files with Outlook Express and allow you to open them.
Also, you might want to open windows explorer, choose tools, folder options, click the view tab at the top,
the uncheck hide files with known file extensions.. Then click the tab at the top that says apply to all folders...
then click ok.
That way you can tell which file extension a particular file actually is no matter where it is saved or stored on your PC.

i have dropped and drag the eml file to the desktop. i also saved the attached email to the desktop. when i right click --- there is no option called *open*.
i get -- add, compress, archive etc as well as the usual choices such as *send to, cut, copy... properties*
i tried both ways to save it to my HDD (which as you know is the same thing) and there is option of... *open*
interesting dilemma..

the problem was solved- t hanks to all
Your suggestions worked. It was a great lead. Your suggestion was for Window Millenium and Outlook Express 5.5 and I had Win 98se and OEversion 6.
But running the Msimn executable file with the /reg option: did it all.
I just had to "tinker" around. <grin.... groan> lol
