Starting Wednesday, photo sharing app Instagram is going to look a lot different.

The app revealed a cleaner look Wednesday, changing the overall design of its user interface and swapping logos.

"The simpler design puts more focus on your photos and videos without changing how you navigate the app," reads a statement from Instagram published Wednesday.

The interface looks less colorful than earlier versions, and that's done by design, said Ian Spalter, Instagram's head of design, in a post on Medium.

"While the logo is a colorful doorway into the Instagram app, once inside the app, we believe the color should come directly from the community's photos and videos," said Spalter. "We stripped the color and noise from surfaces where people's content should take center stage, and boosted color on other surfaces like sign up flows and home screens."

Along with Instagram, the photo sharing service hosts three other apps: Layout for creating photo collages, Hyperlapse for time lapse video, and Boomerang for creating short video clips. All three apps will receive similar logo upgrades.

Launched in 2010, Instagram is among the most popular social media apps, particularly among teens. According to a survey from research firm Piper Jaffray, Instagram is the second most popular social app for teens, trailing closely behind Snapchat.

The redesign is among a series of changes unveiled at Instagram recently. In March, Instagram expanded video options, allowing users to post clips as long as 60 seconds.
