one more thing to try

connections/setup
use the wizard to setup your connection
then repeat the above steps
remember to right click you lan connection and select properties
btw
i dont have the "ppp adapter msn" in your picture help2.jpg
try getting rid of that and later if you need it you could get it installed

i don't know what "ppp adapter msn" is.
maybe my dial-up connection?
Why are all the modem lights on showing "online" "activity is flashing, send is on, receive is on, standby is off.

if you have a firewall installed
uninstall it for now along with any pop-up blocker
these will only complicate the problems
ok i uninstalled sygate, re-booted - now what? Is it supposed to be on? Is there something to click? I don't get it.
you have to goto startmenu run
type cmd
type ipconfig/release
enter
type ipconfig/renew
enter
you should have a Connection-specific DNS Suffix
if its blank then you are not comunicating with the internet
reset the modem and reboot the computer
*sigh* already been released
cannot find file
can't even count how many times I unplugged re-booted
:(
Hey lynchknot, glad to see that you got your cable :D , sorry :( to see that you are having trouble. I had the something happen in that when the cable guy came and hooked it up he could not get it working so it was up to me to do so.
Have a look at this and let us know what you find out. As well it looks like you are using ether net connection, have you tried the USB to see if it will work?
Tried everything :(
hi lynchknot
techzonez went down for a long time
try this

delete all your network adapters
you will be using you ethernet for the hookup
open ie/tools/internet options/connections
remove all internet connections that may be their
restart your computer
windows should install your ethernet card
goto network connections and right click local area connections
select properties
make sure tcp/ip is installed
goto

could you give me some details in your att manual
1 are you on a proxy?
is your ip config set to automatic?
do you have to register your modem at a special website like adsl?
any info from the manual about windows setup config for att would be helpful
could you give me some details in your att manual
1 are you on a proxy? - I DON'T THINK SO
is your ip config set to automatic? - I BELIEVE SO
do you have to register your modem at a special website like adsl? - AFTER CONNECTION THERE IS AN ACTIVATION GUIDE AND CD. ADSL? - THIS IS CABLE. I THOUGHT DSL IS TELE.

dsl is telephone and dedicated to your connection
cable is shared with your neighbours
did you try my recommendations?
are you on the same computer to access techzonez now?
i hope this is a second computer
egghead
Yes, I did everything you said - several times - and so did the tech. I only have one computer and a webtv (which I never use anymore - unless the PC is down.)
I'm accessing techzonez with the PC on dial-up. I haven't discontinued MSN yet.
right click local area 5
select properties
tell me what you see
This is what I see:

great!
uninstall everything that is there
post when you've done that for an update
How can I uninstall everything and get back - doesn't it effect dial-up too? - or do I need to use the webtv? What do you mean? uncheck or uninstall?
these settings should only be for your realtech
i want you to get rid of everything except the tcp/ip
when you've done this check your tcp/ip properties and set everything tp automatic
restart your computer and do run/cmd
type only
ipconfig
you should have a working cable ip
Still nothing but "0"

not sure if this was mentioned but you said that you have rebooted plenty of times but have you turned the modem off and back on.
ipconfig/renew
in your local area connection 5
you must only have tcp/ip
everything else must be uninstalled
check your cables
maybe get webtv running so we can dedicate this pc to highspeed
yes, I unplugged the power and plug from the back of both.
ipconfig/renew="the system cannot find the file specified"
everything is uninstalled.
reason I'm asking I built a new pc for a buddy and plugged in everything and could not get on the net...rebooted no dice..finally rebooted the cable modem rebooted the pc and voila you got NET
do you have an extra NIC to toss in there maybe a bad NIC
I have no idea what a NIC even looks like. This is my first computer ever and it's only 9 months old.
Status shows "connected" at 100Mbps - it just won't pull an IP.
do you have systemworks installed?
i got ythis from a thread with the exact same prob you have
here is his solution
Guess what everybody...
I had Systemworks installed, and everytime I tried to view my stats on Antivirus, it gave me an "not valid windows image" error. I guess somehow, the files got corrupted.
So I completely uninstalled Systemworks, and voila!! Everything went back to normal. Don't know what it is...if somebody knows about this particular software conflict...let me know.
Thanks for everybody's help!
now here is the complete threadwith the problem
i hope it gives you idea's

im still looking
The NIC is where you connect your broad band from the cable modem to the back of your pc...not the phone modem...looks the same but the NIC connector is alittle bigger than the phone plug.
well........I know that - besides, I would be hard pressed to try to plug it into the phone modem! :p
BTW - it lights up too.
Does it just slide out of the back?

LAN 5? I think there should only be one LAN present in Network Connections.
lynchknot -
do the simple thing if you haven't already...
power down the pc...
unplug the cable modem...
wait a few seconds...
plug in the cable modem...
wait till all the lights come on...
power on the pc...
I have to do this when I am flipping my pc's around. if i power on the pc before the cable modem is ready, the computer won't resolve the ip address.
For those of you who were at chat - I lost the connection and cannot get back. My PC is all screwed up after re-booting - 4 bit color and low resolution and it can't be changed - the slider doesn't work and the color only offers 4 bit. i also have flicker from hell and the option to chance refresh rate is gone.
