Hello group - Am I supposed to get a router and/or a hardware firewall? Do I leave this modem on all the time - I turn off the PC every night.
I leave my modem on 24/7. My IP will automaticly renew so that is no problem. As well my IP is not suppose to be static but I have had the same one from the get go with Comcast.
I use a Linksys cable\router. If you are going to have to buy you router Best Buy has the best selection and price in my area......
Thanks Tinker - hey, i've seen plain text sigs here, over the allowed limit for sigs - does that count? - if not is it because it was under the height restriction? My sig was well under the height limit and was only an inch or so longer than yours.
Man am I happy you got that figured out.Was it something in your registry that was corrupt or missing as one of your error messages indicated?.I was watching techtv and there is some added protection for broadband users called NAT.Go to grc.com or look on the techtv site,it looked interesting anyhow.
sorry wrong forum:)
cheers

The plain text sigs do not affect the download time like a graphic sig does. The rule on sigs was set for graphic images that have to be downloaded from a host. The size limit was designed to help out those on dial up so that they do not have to wait and wait to see a page. Now you point is a good one however and we shall defer to the Man.Quote:

To check a sigs size right click on the sigs and click on properties, this will give you the info on the image you are looking at. You can do this on any image you want to know information about. My sig as you will see is 360 x 100 which is the maximum size. Also the maximum file size is 80k, this information is also displayed under properties.......
I do go to the limit on my sigs from time to time, this I will admit.:D
Wouldn't it depend more on the file size in kb more than the actual physical size. My 60X390 sig was probably much less in kb than your sig is.
Sorry - i'm trying not to sound like argueing - just want to understand.
The file size (kb) is not the issue here.Quote:

The reason for having a max dimension limit (pixels) is purely for appearance.
If you allow sigs that are too large it messes up the forum tables and looks untidy.
As Tinker pointed out we have a sig dimension limit of 360 x 100 which is clearly stated in the Forum Rules and also in bold red text alongside the sig box in your control panel.
Lynch,
I understand where you are coming from. I too wondered about the dimension sizes, not only for this board but also for all boards in general, but I do understand why size limits are necessary. It is to help the boards stay semi-uniform and load faster.
Nxsecure has one of the strictest sig policies on the net.. ask Conan. And if you disobey them they take your sig down and put up a stupid one, mocking you. While I don't agree with that method, it is effective, and funny.
Just edit the size and you are all set.
