bluetooth drivers
My cell phone is bluetooth-enabled, as is my laptop. However, whenever I try to connect one to the other, Vista keeps giving me the "found new hardware - install new driver" message. And then it can't locate one!
- wtf do I need a driver for a cell phone?
- If it would tell me EXACTLY what driver I need, I could google it.
- If this info is logged, where would it be in event viewer?
- At this point, I don't know whether to call MS (O/S), Dell (PC), or Sony Ericsson (phone).
But at least one of them deserves a serious ear-blistering for frustration due to insufficient info.http://www.smileypad.com/v224/Angry/Argh.gif
Here's the event logs, in xml format, zipped. Please tell me someone here can decipher these.

Do you have Defender running? Disable it.
Have you tried adding it via Bluetooth Devices (Hardware and Sound) in the Control Panel?
What Dell model do you have?
-
- Yes, and I will.
- Not sure, but I will.
- Inspiron 6400/E1505
-
for my dell 6400, i had to install the toshiba bluetooth drivers that came with the recovery/image CDs for the laptop.
Microsoft didnt license the bluetooth TCP stack, so third party companies need to provide the cd.
I dont think the phone manufacturers provide (they only give you the software applications for photo and video transfer etc)...
-
The phone itself should be natively supported and not need a driver, if you are just trying to move files back and forth. Now if it's trying to use the phone as a modem or something like that then it may need to install additional drivers.
-
And where would I get them? I'm trying to sync both PIMs.
Here's the diagnostics report. Read it in good health.
-
is your phone have a data plan and youre trying to tether the phone to the laptop to use it like a modem or you just trying to transfer files.
-
There are lots of BT shareware apps at the link that may help with what you are trying to do. If the vendor doesn't have updated software that is.
Hopefully you will find one that is Vista compatible.

@ phish: transfer files and sync my PIMs.
@ rik: thanks.

-
Also, does your laptop actually have bluetooth?? I remember i had to order bluetooth as an extra option.
Do you have the DELL quickset function keys?

So, Any update on this Lady?
-
- I emailed Sony Ericsson. Got a lameass autoresponse, including some bushwa about it might take time due to inclement weather. On the Internet? Hello!
- I downloaded a few things from that site you posted. The bluetooth diagnostic can find my phone.
- Haven't had the energy to look for/install drivers that'll work with my phone.
- And I think I have a torn rotator cuff.

Heard back from the bastids: "Dear Pia,
Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Online Support. The new Sony Ericsson PC Suite for the Windows Vista will be released in the 2nd quarter of 2007 (April, May, June)"
double ouch. And then they have da noive to refer me to a fee-based service provider who want $75 to suggest other software!
-
I think I just hurt my shoulder too, shaking my fist hard at the Tie-Jobs at Sony!! Argh, $75 thats ridiculous! Maybe if you go to a Sony-Ericsson Dealership the service guy might have a pre-release copy in the backshelf ;)
Else, wait and see if Egghead buys a new Sony phone, and hope it comes with the updated software ;)
-
Sony's lame excuse: "Vista will get a service pack soon, and we're waiting til that's released to update the software so we can be sure everything will work together."
They're BLOW jobs, not tie jobs. The software doesn't come with the phone--it's a free download.
Meanwhile, the woman I spoke with at Sony, when prompted (read: bullied) by me, asked a co-worker who knew of alternative software. They came up with Mobile Master. The pro version cost me $50, but was worth it, as IT WORKS! Synced my calendar, added a ringtone, etc.
So I'm happy. until something else goes blooey. Thanks, one and all. And rik?

Back atcha Babe ;)
Like I said...SOOOOOO many vendors simply were not ready for the Vista release even though they knew about it for how long? Really poor support by the outside vendors IMO

Over, under, sideways, down
Inside, outside, upside down

Good to hear you got everything working Pia! Hope you load some good MP3 ringtones, (toottunes) :p and have fun on the subways!
