XP Home or Professional?
2 days ago, I received my new computer and it came with XP Home installed. My question is.... what's the difference between Home and Professional (other than price... LOL)?
Also, can you upgrade from Home to Professional?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!

a few minor differances
one xp home is geared towards home uesers,
the pro version is basicly added bells and whistles like advanced netwroking option such as remote desktop, more administrative tools that you can use to configure windows, ithiers not much diff,

It appears I need XP Pro. Another question for ya....

Welcome FBM357, please post often as we love a challenge. By all means enjoy your stay.
The process could take a couple of hours plus if you have not attempted this before. It however for the most part is painless.
** HOW TO: Install Windows XP **
** How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP **
If you system is only a few days old you may want to take it back to the outlet you got it from and see if they will trade you for one with XP Pro already installed. Just a thought......

Welcome MrDak, post many questions as we love a challenge..
Please enjoy you stay with us..
You can use the upgrade to go from Home to Pro. You can also do a clean install of Pro without loading Home first. You will have to have the Home disk handy however because Pro will ask for a previous version of Windows to do the upgrade. Pro will ask you to place the Home CD in the CDR and it will check to make sure it is a valid version. Once it sees that it is then the install will begin.
If buy chance your XP Home is a OEM version (HP,DELL, etc.) with recovery disk and not the Full version of XP Home this will not work and you will have to have XP Home loaded on the system before it will upgrade..........
I hope this helps.........

Thanks Tinker,
i'm gonna install the pro upgrade tomorrow. I have the full install CD for home. so the cheaper oem upgrade should do it. i should've known that .....it's just like win95 upgrade to 98 or 98se. coooool. Actually I should say UNCOOL considering i already gave M$ 100.00 for the home version. Talk about a sellers market,eh?
Well, thanks again duuuuude.
