Can't access Windows Update

Just reinstalled XP and I have been trying to access Windows Update. I got the first set of 18 critical updates installed and after that, when I attempted to get more updates, I got an error message, Error Message 0x80072EFD.

So I pick the trouble shooting page that corresponds with the error message, try all the solutions and nothing works.

I am running NIS, but that does not seem to be the problem. I can download other programs just fine.

Any ideas what the issue might be?
And if there are none, where else can I get Windows updates?

You can get them Here but I think you need to get the update fixed.


So you tried everything here http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;836941 ? and did you disable NIS ?

Possibly spywared, i have seen it before and its proved very difficult to fix, but it can be done using spysweeper, ad-aware and microsoft anti-spyware.

Failing that, re-install

sometimes incompatibilities with Automatic Update enabled and manual updates... i have this problem atm, i simply disabled auto-update, do manual scan & install, then re-enabled ;)
