Netman won't start
I have a problem.
A virus or something seems to have screwed me up. My network connections folder takes about 60 sec to open, and when it does nothing is in it. I have tracked it down to the netman service not being able to start doe to Error 2: Missing file...
Anybody know how to fix it?
Thanks,
TysonKam

Try running sfc /scannow from Start > Run to replace any corrupt or missing files.
(leave a space between sfc and / ) . Have your XP CD handy

Thanks Reverend,
But that didn't seem to do anything for my problem for some reason. Is there any way I can find out the specific files netman relies on, and copy them from another machine?
Thanks again,

Can you post the exact error message you receive. (including any error codes, etc).

No prob. After attempting to start netman, this is what I see in an error box:
"Could not start Network Connections service on Local Computer.
Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."
My only option presented is to hit "OK"
Thanks again for the help.

I presume you have installed XP SP1. If not,you can download it here

Thanks Reverend,
I actually just compared registries with my other machine looking for all instances of "netman". After an exhaustive search, I found this value to be missing in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Netman\Parameters
ServiceDll REG_EXPAND_SZ %SystemRoot%\System32\netman.dll
I created the entry and now it works fine!
I have no idea on causality, other than I did have a virus a few months ago, fixed it, and haven't looked at my network connections since.
Thanks Again,
TysonKam
