DNS problems on a few sites

I have problems accessing a couple sites:

neowin
**** edgaijin
nxsecure

etc....

If I use a proxy server, they work fine. If I boot into Linux they work fine. If I use IE or Mozilla without a proxy, they won't resolve.

I've even taken the drastic step of overwriting my current installation to correct the problem to no avail.

I have ran virus scans, adaware, cleared all the cookies, reset the modem, flushed the DNS using ipconfig /flushdns command...

I've done everything but a clean install....


Anyone have a single clue how I can access those sites again?

Use Anonymizer or Stealther temporarily.

the trojan i aquired from a popup changed the host file in your windows/drivers/etc directory

i think thats the directory

check my post about the google search and look for the URL to the cure

the virus edited my registry and moved the host directory to windows/help

it messed up all my search engines lol

You can run a program like fastnet99 http://www.geocities.com/gcriaco/
to verify servers in the hosts database and correct all incorrect IP addresses

Stealther works fine... allows me to visit every site...

I kind of was thinking that it was the same sort of issue you were having... really screwy. But I can search at all the search engines, I just cannot visit some sites. Thanks for that info.

If I understood that thread, this will do exactly the same thing. I've been using it for ages and it does speed up page loading, especially forums!

My problem is not speed, it is not being able to connect to less than a handful of sites.. while all other sites work fine... even after I reinstalled XP over the existing installation... doesn't make sense. And as you can see above, the port has basically changed now from 135 to 6882.. occassionally 135-7./..
