I ran SmartDefrag on a fully defraged HD (XP defrager) and SmartDefrag said no fragmented files, moved a couple files around and thats it.
I've used PerfectDisk for years and went back to the XP...
If I remember correct;y (yes ;) ) you already had the best DVD software, really no need to buy something unless it was CloneDVD or the paid version of DVDFab.
Freeware is still the king IMO.

The DVD is copy protected, what are you using with DVD Shrink ? You need AnyDVD or DVDFab HD Decrypter (Free version) running in the background during the rip.
It is real slow for me, a few times today it wouldn't load at all.

You must be trying an XP SP1 upgrade CD ? , if not then wipe the drive and you can install anything without forcing.....
If you have XP SP1upgrade and a Win 98/ME CD you can do a clean install...

I'm willing to bet that any of the major Linux distro's have more included drivers than the original XP release, XP SP1, XP SP2 CD's. Don't have XP SP2 Media Center so I don't know if any...
I don't know of anything that'll do that :confused: Its hardware, bad driver/conflict related.
I'm sure there's software for blocking things you describe, I don't know any because Firefox with the NoScript extension works real good. With the addition of Adblock extension it should be real...
You need to use Memtest86+, get the ISO version and burn to CD, boot the CD and test.
I don't know what HD you have ? get the manufactures HD test utility, make sure your HD is not failing.
