Talking Get a free 2GB email account using @msn.com

Microsoft have begun increasing free users accounts to 250MB storage and their paid subscribers to 2GB of storage.

    Storage Account Details:
    Free Hotmail Service:
    250meg storage + 10meg attachment limit
30 day expiry if no activity
    Antivirus scan & clean

    Hotmail Plus Service:
Annual fee (price varies per country) expected to be $19.95
    2gig of storage + 20meg attachment limit
    No expire date
    No unneeded graphics or ads
    Access to pop3 settings
    Antivirus scan & clean

All users should be upgraded by the end of the following week. However, how correct that may be is yet to be seen.

NOTE: It appears you can get 2GB of space free by registering an @msn.com email address. This could be a fluke, or it could indeed be the reality of having an @msn.com account. Details to follow if changes are made.

To get your free 2GB account:
Basically using the free MSN explorer that is included with XP (click start, click all programs, click MSN Explorer), you can sign up with a new @msn.com account and get a free 2GB email.

Have a look at the screenshot.

Great! But will it work if I sign-up for a MSN account without using MSN Explorer? Coz I uninstalled MSN Explorer long ago.

What if my account is already @msn.com? Will I get 2 GB? I registered for this account of mine not through MSN Explorer but through the original .NET passport site. Go there and register instead. You'll be given a choice of @hotmail or @msn. At that time I figured that so many people were using @hotmail and so I decided to be different and use @msn instead.

I couldn't start MSN Explorer without having to pay for their service. How did you do it?

It should give you a free choice. There were two choices, the free and not free. I chose the free choice.

I don't see any free choice, maybe it's changed in SP2.

When you open MSN explorer, choose

Create a new email address for me.

    Then choose
    your title
    first and last name

    Continue

Then in your region select your country!! Even if you live somewhere else.

    Birthday and occupation

    accept the agreement

    password and secret question

    Then your new member name.

Join their customer experience program or not.. I never do...

Sign in and you have your free account.

But maybe Sp2 screwed it up... who knows.

    Confirmed:

New users get the standard 2MB.. if you signed up before when I posted this, you got 2000MB.. they've stopped that with new registrations.

When choosing the new e-mail option it immediately asks which paid plan I want to subscribe to and gives 3 paid plan options.
