Add/Remove Programs problem
Hi all,
I have a problem with Add/Remove Programs. When I try to
install a program using "Add/Remove Programs" in the WinMe
Control Panel, I do not get a listing in the available
programs of "Add/Remove Programs" after the installation.
This means that I cannot uninstall a program unless it
comes with a built-in uninstaller.
For old programs which are already listed in "Add/Remove
Programs", if I uninstall them, and then later re-install
them, their listing does not re-appear. So I can no longer
uninstall them either.
This is a concern as with no listing in "Add/Remove
Programs", I can neither remove or alter programs which
have been installed.
Is there any way to solve this? Will I need to re-install
Windows? Can it be fixed with a Registry alteration? Has
anybody come across this before? If anybody has any ideas,
please let me know.
Thanks!
MG
P.S. My system is WinMe, 1GHz P3, 256Mb.

Not too sure if this is going to work with your OS but you can find apps to keep track of your installs, it's just down to personal choice in the end but ere's one I found...

Hi Coffee,
I managed to find a solution on another forum. My problem was caused by a bug in the Registry. If a program in WinMe has an UnistallName with more than 63 characters, it can cause all sorts of problems. Even affecting the Uninstallation of unrelated programs. I believe that the solution is to cut the Uninstall name of any program down to 63 characters or less.
