removing an unwanted program from control panel
the cd my isp gave me installed a program whose icon is displayed on the control panel main menu...i removed the program but the icon in the control panel (only) is still there. how do iremove it..? i am unable to right click and delete...

Did you reboot ? You could go to C: program files and see if it left a folder, if it did then delete the folder then run Regcleaner
Make sure in the software tab (regcleaner) that the program is removed. Then go to tools>Registry Cleanup>Do them all. If that doesn't work then you'll need to go to Win Sys32 folder and try to find the .cpl extension for that program and delete it. C: Windows>Sys32 then right click on a blank spot and select View>Details, then select Arrange Icon by Type and scroll down till you see Control Panel Extensions.
