Thanks much! Will do.
I have McAfee VirusScan and check for viruses periodically, but I've always seemed to experience problems. Would it hurt to re-install IE? Or would it just lead to more headaches!?

many users here would like to find the easy way out.
this involves taking the computer to the store and having a tech format and re-install everything
i am not sure if re-installing internet explorer will help you determine and elliminate the source (eg... spyware, adware etc...)
you need to first assess the situation and determine if you have a virus or trojan or spyware that is straining your computer.
follow the steps in the spyware removal thread including the online virus scan
each scanner detects things others miss.
spyware tends to mess with internet explorer and cause lockups etc...
after you scan and clean your computer you should stop using Microsoft's internet explorer and use a safer alternative like firefox.
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
it is better than internet explorer in many ways and is also safer.
btw
