Anyone know if CDONTS must use the IIS default SMTP server (on localhost)? And / or can a remote SMTP server be specified in the code?
Any help much appreciated.
A quick search didnt turn up anything specific, however, it seems CDONTS has a couple of security, compatbility and flexibility issues. Are you using ASP pages? could you switch to VB .NET scripts inside ASPX files? then you could COM components to specify which SMTP server to use.

The issue has now been resolved - it did need the default SMTP server from W2k and now that it is running OK the mail is shooting out. Thanks for taking the time to try and help. I am glad to say that now the mail is going other issues are largely irrelevant to me . I upgraded a Web server and the only error was this failure which apparently is due to the default network path for SMTP being lost due to the change of NICs, I say apparently because I didn't solve it someone else did.
